Preference matching: How do I turn off all preference matching? I don't want to be connected to anyone.

If you try to deselect every matching preference on the Connection Settings screen, you'll notice that we automatically revert your selections to all. Most people do this attempting to eliminate all local connections on their mobile phones.

This settings screen controls your connection preferences, or the desired behavior of your phone when you are active and are trying to make connections. If instead, you are trying to control whether or not to connect at all, you should use the "Block Connections" option in your mobile phone, which is available from both the main menu and the connections menu. Choosing this option will block all connections until you choose to accept them, or until Swirl Connect is restarted, whichever comes first.

Preferences control how to connect; the Block Connection function controls whether to connect.

Connection matching guidance: can you share some recommendations on connection preferences?

Swirl defaults to connecting you to all users in your area, and this is generally the best setting if there aren't a large number of users Swirling in your area. The more users there are in in one area, the choosier you can afford to be with your connections. You can always check out how densely populated your area is by Finding People or Finding Places. Both can help you view the concentration in your area.

If you know you only want to connect to certain types of users, or if you're in a concentrated area, turning on profile matching is a good idea, so that you are only connected with the types of people you want to meet. Both weak and strong profile matches will take your profile tags, matching preferences (e.g. single, opposite sex), and connection goals and moods into consideration, but strong matches require a higher compatibility factor. The compatibility factor is much like a search engine relevancy ranking, except we rank the similarity of your goals and profile with those of other users in the area.

Coming soon: specify a compatibility threshold.
